Software Development Intern (Winter 2025)

As a small early-stage startup, the student will have the opportunity to own new features, interact with clients, and help come up with improvements to the product.
Remote, Canada

Transify is a Toronto-based startup that's working on a data platform for transit agencies. Our data platform visualizes the data generated by GPS and passenger counter devices onboard buses to help transit planning and operations staff optimize bus service.

Our stack consists of React in the frontend and Python, Django, and Pandas in the backend. We conduct code reviews and will work closely with the student to ensure that their skills will improve throughout the term.

The student will work on developing new features in the frontend and backend applications. This includes responding to code reviews, working with the lead developer, writing unit and integration tests, and writing documentation. As a small early-stage startup, the student will have the opportunity to own new features, interact with clients, and help come up with improvements to the product. Here's a testimonial from a recent Waterloo co-op:

"Highly recommend Transify for motivated, passionate individuals who want to grow. I was given significant ownership opportunities that pushed me to think deeply about both the product side and the engineering side, as well as the freedom to pursue my ideas to improve existing processes. Very happy that I was able to learn and accomplish so much here during my four months."

Requirements:

  • Prior co-op term developing software in React

Pluses:

  • Experience with Pandas and Python
  • Familiar with basic CS concepts
  • Familiar with how unit/integration tests work
  • Most of all, interested in helping improve public transit

If you have an interest in improving public transit, meet some of the "pluses", or have a cool side-project you'd like to share, feel free to highlight those in your application.
